Dr James Riddell

Training and background
Dr Riddell undertook his medical training through Otago University in New Zealand. He then completed his basic medical training and the bulk of his gastroenterology specialist training in New Zealand before moving to Australia in 2003 to complete specialist training at Canberra Hospital.
He was Chief Medical Registrar at Canberra Hospital in 2004 and was then appointed a Visiting Medical Officer at Calvary Public Hospital (now North Canberra Hospital), engaged in gastroenterology, endoscopy and general medicine. Subsequently he was part of the IBD Clinic at Canberra Hospital. Dr Riddell divides his time evenly between the public and private health sectors in the ACT.

Over the years his roles have included:
- Chairman of the Medical Staff Council (Calvary Hospital)
- Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Calvary Private Hospital)
- Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (ACT Endoscopy)
- Regional Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- Clinical lecturer, ANU Medical School (ANUMS)
- Student supervisor (ANUMS / ANU School of Medicine and Psychology)
- Supervisor to numerous junior medical staff
Memberships and certification
Dr Riddell is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and has been certified and recertified in adult upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE). He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA).
Clinical interests
His interests encompass the assessment and management of general gastroenterology and liver conditions, the provision of safe, high-quality gastrointestinal endoscopy, and contribution to the education of junior medical staff and medical students.
