Professor Narci Teoh

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist
Background
Professor Narci Teoh is a female gastroenterologist and hepatologist in Canberra; she joined the practice of Dr James Riddell in August 2021. She works in both the private and public health sectors in the ACT.
Training and academic career
Prof Teoh graduated in Medicine with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney and completed her postgraduate specialist training at the Royal North Shore and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney. After a stint at the University of Washington, Seattle, she was recruited to the Australian National University and The Canberra Hospital as a clinical-academic in 2006. Since then, Prof Teoh has remained a proud and active member of Canberra as well as its surrounding regional communities.
Professional leadership
Prof Teoh is a current Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and has held several senior leadership positions in her profession’s peak body, including serving as President of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) from 2017 to 2019.
Clinical interests
Her clinical practice interests include coeliac disease, colorectal cancer screening, fatty liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis B and the prevention of related complications. She is GESA-certified and recertified in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Narci is experienced in relating to patients of most ages, including adolescents (age 14+); her focus is on excellence in patient-centred, collegial collaborative care with clear communications at the core of optimal gastroenterological and liver health provision. She enjoys working with her colleagues in caring for patients in Canberra and from the surrounding rural regions.
