Dr Phil Leaver

Consultant Gastroenterologist
Background
Dr Leaver is a specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist who works across both the private and public health sectors in the ACT. He provides care for patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, with a focus on clear communication, evidence-based treatment and individualised patient care.
Training
Dr Leaver grew up in rural New South Wales before moving to Sydney to study medicine at the University of New South Wales, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2015 and subsequently completing a Doctor of Medicine (MD).
He undertook his specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology across several major NSW teaching hospitals, including St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, Royal North Shore Hospital and hospitals on the Central Coast. During his training, he gained broad experience in the management of gastrointestinal and liver disease, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Clinical interests
Dr Leaver’s clinical interests include general gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. He manages a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease and liver disorders.
He also has particular interests in bowel cancer screening and the investigation and management of gastrointestinal bleeding, with an ongoing focus on improving the quality and delivery of patient care.
